Tara Singh and Sakeena’s love story was a rage back in 2001 and their Prem Katha, so to say, continues even now, more than two decades later, with twofold romance and drama.
Director and Producer, Anil Sharma, is back with the sequel of the superhit movie Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Released in 2001, Gadar emerged to be the most loved and highest-grossing movie of the year.
Starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel as the main leads, the movie developed a cult following among different generations over the years.
Tara Singh, played by Sunny Deol, married a Pakistani girl Sakeena, played by Ameesha Patel, to safeguard her life at the time of partition. This doesn’t sit well with Sakeena’s family. Tara Singh, crossing all boundaries and defying all odds for the sake of his love and family, stirred the right strings in people’s hearts.
The audience cried in Tara and Sakeena’s pain and rejoiced with happy tears on their reunion, it’s as if they lived their love story vicariously through the screen!
Anil Sharma, the creator of this megahit movie shares the same views, he said,
“Gadar – Ek Prem Katha isn’t my film but it’s people’s film and dynamically shifted the paradigm of the Indian film industry. It went on to become a cult icon wherein people breathed Tara Singh and Sakina’s story.”
Gadar: Ek Prem Katha was released on 15th June 2001, hence makers were planning to release its sequel on 15th June 2023, in honour of the movie’s 22nd anniversary. However, things didn’t turn out as planned and after the subsequent delays, the movie is scheduled to release on 11 August 2023.
If we are to go by reports that are doing rounds, this date is not 100% confirmed, as Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal is also slotted to release on the same date. Makers are in talks about whether to change the date in order to do full justice to the blockbuster franchise!
As of now, there aren’t any changes in the release date.
Expected Storyline of the Movie “Gadar 2”
Makers are keeping the story under wraps and haven’t dropped any hints about the plot of the movie. Nevertheless, as per sources, Gadar 2 will begin a few years later from where the first movie ended, though there will be flashbacks to establish a link between the two storylines.
Gadar 2 will be centred around the love story of Tara and Sakeena’s son, Jeete, whose character will be played by Utkarsh Sharma.
Simrat Kaur, Luv Sinha, Rohit Choudhary, Gaurav Chopra, and Arjun Diwedi are some of the names that have been doing rounds since the movie’s filming but there is no official confirmation by the makers as of now.
Amrish Puri, who played the role of Sakeena’s father, Vivek Shouk who was seen in the role of Tara’s best friend, and Mithlesh Chaturvedi are some of the actors that graced Gadar 1 with their presence and amazing performances, but won’t be a part of Gadar 2. The audiences are a bit disappointed with their absence as each of them had pivotal roles in the first movie.
Where to Watch the Movie ‘Gadar 2’ in HD
‘Gadar: The Katha Continues’ will most likely be available in cinemas near you on 11th August.
If you’re someone who wishes to watch and download Gadar 2 from the comfort of your home then, you’ll have to wait a bit longer as the movie will release on the streaming platform ZEE5 a few months after its theatrical release.
While the audience is counting the days to watch their favourite movie’s sequel and catch a glimpse of the superhit jodi of Sunny and Amrita, they dropped some BTS pictures and videos from the shoot but that’s just not enough!
So, when the Zee Cine Awards promo came out with the otherwise shy and reserved, Sunny Deol romancing his on-screen Sakeena aka Ameesha Patel on the super hit song from their movie, ‘Udd Jaa Kaale Kaawa’, it gave birth to a wide range of emotions, from excitement to nostalgia, among the audience.
In a fun banter during their on-stage performance, Sunny even said, “Itne saare logo ke saamne yeh sab karna ajeeb sa lagta hai” and ended his performance with roaring “Hindustan Zindabad” in Tara Singh’s style.
